Cosmetic Dermatology: What Dermal Fillers Does My Dermatologist Recommend?

and

Diminishing wrinkles, larger lips and more defined cheekbones are things many of us wish for as we age and start having insecurities about the way we look. The way to accomplish one or all these new looks is through dermal fillers. As we start looking into dermal fillers it can be hard to decipher which option is best and can provide the results you are looking for. Dermatologists at Dermatology & Mohs Surgery Institute can help you through the process and provide the treatment you find that is a fit for your needs.

Dermal Filler Options

A variety of brands and kinds of dermal fillers can be used to achieve different things. Below we take a brief look at many of the options including Juvederm, Jeauveau, Botox, Perlane, Restylane and XEOMIN.

Juvederm

If you want more defined cheeks or plumper lips, Juvederm will do the trick. It also helps reduce fine lines in the face. When Juvederm is used as a cheek filler results can last up to two years. Juvederm is injected into the lips and results can last up to one year.

Jeuveau

Jeuveau is an injectable dermal filler used to prevent wrinkles from forming and smoothing out the ones you may already have. This dermal filler is injected directly into the facial muscles eliminating any frown lines. As the meaning behind the word Jeuveau suggests, “modern”, it is often referred to as “the new and improved Botox”.

Botox

While Jeuveau is the “new and improved” Botox, patients still choose to get Botox injections because of its reputation and results. Botox helps with the removal of frown lines and crow’s feet by temporarily reducing muscle activity where it was injected. Botox will last up to four months.

Perlane

Perlane is a form of Restylane and is a dermal filler meant for other parts of your body. The FDA-approved Perlane can be injected into the face or hands. When injected into the face you will see more fullness and results last up to one year. It can also be injected into the hands. This will cause smoothness and more volume will be apparent, and results last up to six months.

Restylane

Restylane is a form of hyaluronic acid used to correct severe facial lines. Our bodies have their own hyaluronic acid and sometimes more is needed to help smooth out the wrinkles or lines we don’t like. Restylane is meant to act as a form of hyaluronic acid and adds more volume and fullness to the face.

XEOMIN

Lastly, another option available to achieving a new look is using XEOMIN. XEOMIN is meant specifically for between the eyebrows. Like the other dermal fillers, it is injected into the forehead muscles to help smooth the wrinkles. Results last about one month shorter than Botox results.
