Enjoy a Fall Acne Facial to Look Your Best this Season

Acne can be bothersome and uncomfortable for men and women of all ages. Fortunately, facials are available to help eliminate acne. Facials will help you feel more confident heading into fall with clearer skin than ever before. The dermatologists at Dermatology & Mohs Surgery Institute share the step-by-step routine of a facial so you can know what to expect.

What Is Acne and How Can I Treat It?

About Acne

Acne can occur in males and females at any age, but often begins in the adolescent years. As hormones begin to change, they over-stimulate the oil glands causing extra oil and extra skin cells. This results in a blockage and creates whiteheads, blackheads and pimples; also known as acne. Often, once you are out of your adolescent years and your hormones have stabilized, the acne goes away on its own. However, many experience chronic acne that may also leave behind some scarring or follow them into adulthood. Although there is no one-size-fits-all cure, acne-related facials can help keep your skin clear and help with future or current acne scarring.

Acne Facials

Facials help to cleanse, firm, smooth and hydrate the skin. Regular facials are best for taking care of acne. Other facials can be added on to help with other skin problems, such as dermaplaning for peach fuzz, or microdermabrasion for acne scarring.

Regular facials are a great addition to your normal skincare routine. This professional multi-step treatment begins with cleansing the skin. Wipes and sponges are used to help remove any makeup or lotions on your face to ensure they are starting with a blank slate. Next, the dermatologist will determine your skin type to make sure the products used will not irritate your skin. The treatment will then begin with a steam lamp, though it is possible one may not be used on sensitive skin types.

If your skin type allows for it, it will be placed directly above the face to help loosen up blackheads and whiteheads, and prepare them for extraction. Before extraction though, the dermatologist will exfoliate the skin with a chemical substance. Using a tweezer-like instrument, a dermatologist will remove blackheads and whiteheads. It may cause minimal pain in the moment but will feel better shortly after the dermatologist is done. Now, your face is ready for a facial mask. The mask applied is based on your skin type and the condition it is in. It will stay in place for 15 to 20 minutes and then the dermatologist will use a hot towel to wipe it off. Lastly, toner, moisturizer, and other products based on your skin type will be applied. When you look in the mirror, you will see clear skin and a healthy glow. The dermatologist will end the appointment with advice on products you can use in your daily skincare routine to achieve the same results in between facials.
