Getting a Chemical Peel? See Why You Should Add on Dermaplaning

While your face looks amazing after a chemical peel, it will look even better when you add on a dermaplaning treatment. When these two treatments are combined, your face will look and feel rejuvenated, refreshed, and feel softer than ever. They each help the other treatment to be even more successful than it already is. The dermatologists at Dermatology & Mohs Surgery Institute have the ins and outs of both treatments, what to expect during treatment and the results you will achieve.

Why You Should Add Dermaplaning to Your Skincare Routine

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning makes the perfect addition to a chemical peel treatment. It can be done as a standalone treatment but is often added on to chemical peels or microdermabrasion treatments. It can be done on any skin type, but it should be specified to your dermatologist if you have sensitive skin. This allows the dermatologist to add or remove certain aspects of the treatment that may cause skin irritation.

This exfoliating treatment is done on the face with a surgical dermaplaning blade. As it is glided over the face, it removes up to three weeks of dead skin cells, peach fuzz, light wrinkles and improves the skin’s texture. As with many facial treatments, results last up to two months. Wrinkles and peach fuzz will not come back worse, but to continue seeing results, treatments should be continued every two months. No downtime is required after dermaplaning, but you may notice some skin redness that will disappear within 24 hours. It is also recommended to avoid the sun before treatment and a few days after treatment. This painless and quick treatment costs between $50 and $150 per treatment.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel helps to remove the surface layer of the skin resulting in brighter, more youthful skin. The treatment is based on your skin’s sensitivity so be sure to let your dermatologist know your skin type ahead of time. During treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin’s surface causing the upper layers of skin to come off over the days and weeks following treatment. After, cool compresses will be used to soothe the skin. Mild redness and flaking may occur after treatment as well.

Chemical peels help to fade brown spots, aid sun damaged areas, shallow wrinkles, mild scarring, and some acne. When treatments are performed consistently, it aids in the production of collagen to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Treatments can be done every six to eight weeks. Chemical peels cost around $150 per treatment.

After a chemical peel and dermaplaning treatment, your skin is sure to look brighter and feel smoother. While dermaplaning and chemical peels are both successful treatments when done separately, they are even more successful when combined. A dermaplaning treatment before a chemical peel will allow the chemical solution to penetrate the skin deeper and more evenly resulting in an even brighter glow.
