Putting the Brakes on Your Skin’s Aging Process

Young or mature, male or female, it is time to put a stop to the aging process. Whether you want a completely new look or some touch-ups, the dermatologists at Dermatology & Mohs Surgery Institute can make it happen. Learn more below about what causes aging and how we can combat it together.

Why Skin Ages

As we age, our skin may begin to show signs of us getting older. This is due to thinning skin as the result of less elasticity in our skin. When we are younger, we have more naturally occurring collagen in our skin that results in more elasticity. As we get older, we do not produce as much collagen. It results in sagging skin, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. Thankfully, there are many options to help increase collagen production and reverse the effects and signs of aging. Treatments may include dermaplaning, chemical peels, laser therapies or Botox, just to name a few.

Reversing the Aging Process

Different treatments should be explored based on the results you are looking for. All treatments combat a different aging issue. In some cases, patients may want multiple different treatments to address the different signs of aging.

Dermaplaning and Chemical Peels

If you want to achieve smooth, younger looking skin, dermaplaning and chemical peels are a great option. Dermaplaning is a non-invasive treatment performed by a dermatologist. It is quick and painless and will have you looking younger than ever. A shaving tool is used on the entire face to remove peach fuzz and dead skin cells. Once completed, your skin will feel and look unbelievably smooth, skin tone will be evened out and light wrinkling will have faded out. Results last nearly two months.

A chemical peel is like dermaplaning but done through a different process. A chemical solution is placed on your face to help reduce wrinkles, lines and scars. The upper layer of skin is essentially removed, revealing bright, fresh skin underneath. Treatments will need to be continued to keep seeing results. More permanent results will come from laser therapies or Botox.

Laser Therapies

Laser therapies utilize a dot pattern to create thousands of microscopic perforations while still leaving the skin intact. This helps remove acne scarring and other signs of aging. It helps increase collagen production so wrinkles disappear and the skin does not sag as much. After the treatment, the skin will be red for a few days, then it will go back to normal.

Botox

Another more permanent solution to aging is getting Botox. When injected into wrinkles, lips, or other areas of concern the skin becomes tighter and more plump. It helps eliminate frown lines, crows feet and wrinkles. Botox lasts for nearly four months but to see continued results you will need to get it done every few months as it wears off.
