The Top 3 Minimally Invasive Skin Procedures

Having clear, smooth, and young skin does not always have to involve invasive procedures. In fact, the top three minimally invasive skin procedures include dermal fillers, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels. The dermatologists at Dermatology & Mohs Surgery Institute can perform each of these options based on the results you are looking to achieve. Learn more about each skin procedure below.

What Are the Top Minimally Invasive Skin Procedures?

Dermal Fillers

As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and results in wrinkles and loose skin. Aging may be inevitable but due to recent technology, it is possible to slow it down and hide its effects. If you are looking for wrinkle reduction options or other ways to combat aging, dermal fillers can help. Dermal fillers help to combat loose skin by restoring volume in the face and can help to eliminate wrinkles. They are also used to plump lips, improve scarring, and enhance shallow facial areas. The most common dermal filler involves the use of hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in our body but is produced less as we age. Dermal fillers with hyaluronic acid are minimally invasive and help to tighten and plump the areas it is used in. The dermatologist will simply inject the filler directly into your cheeks to create more volume and into your wrinkles to soften them up and tighten the skin. For continued results, follow up appointments will be needed.

Microdermabrasion

Another minimally invasive, but very successful procedure, is microdermabrasion. It is a light facial peel that helps with the aging process, acne, and other skin pigmentation issues. Microdermabrasion is a great procedure on its own or the perfect addition to a facial. It helps to improve sun damage issues, wrinkles, acne scarring and more.

Prior to treatment, it is best to avoid the sun and tanning. During the treatment, a diamond tip applicator is used to sand away the outer layer of skin and help to rejuvenate it. This will help to smooth out impurities, clear up acne, and allow for the skin to be revitalized. After treatment, a moisturizer will be used to help the healing process. Results will be noticed immediately. Treatments will need to be continued based on the results you are looking to achieve.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a great, minimally invasive procedure that removes the surface layers of the skin, revealing new and smooth skin. It helps to fade brown spots, clear up sun damage, and even out skin tone. During treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin that results in the upper layers peeling and flaking off, revealing bright, refreshed skin underneath. A cool compress is used after treatment to help with the healing process. During the healing process you will notice some redness and mild flaking. It is also important to avoid the sun for a few days after treatment. Having chemical peels done every two months can lead to collagen stimulation that helps to tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

If you want refreshed, bright, and younger looking skin without going through an invasive procedure, dermal fillers, microdermabrasion, or a chemical peel may be for you.
